WD Scorpio Black 750GB Laptop HDD
You can never have enough storage and if you primarily use a notebook you more than likely know that storage space is a precious commodity. Most pre-configured notebooks that are available at brick and mortar stores come with 250GB or 320GB hard drives is seems. That may sound like a bunch of space when you are standing in the store, but after you put all your programs, games and digital media on the drive it usually doesn't leave you with much space for future growth. If you have reached or are nearing full capacity on your storage drive then you might want to consider upgrading to a larger 750GB or 1TB 2.5" notebook hard drive. If you are after performance then you'll want to stick to a 750GB drive as they are available at 7200 RPM and offer the fastest data transfers possible on a notebook hard drive. If you don't really care about performance and just want as much storage space as you can get in a 2.5" notebook drive then a 1TB 5200 RPM hard drive is the ideal choice for you.WD Scorpio Black WD7500BPKT Hard Drive Features:

Memory Performance on AMD's A-Series APU
Last month Legit Reviews reviewed the AMD A8-3850 'Llano' APU and our article looks like it was well received by our readers with the exception of one thing. We've had a number of readers write in saying that it was great that we tested this platform with 1866MHz memory, but they are building budget systems and want to use 1333MHz or 1600MHz memory. It is true that we didn't look at performance numbers of AMD's A-Series APUs on the A75 chipset at 1333MHz, 1600MHz and since this platform is very budget friendly we see this as a valid point.
Legit Reviews does not want to ostracize any of our readers and pride ourselves on our no-BS straight forward and honest reviews, so we went back to the drawing board to get you the performance data you need before ordering in a new platform. We'll be using the Gigabyte GA-A75-UD4H motherboard for testing again, but since we updated the BIOS to version F3 we re-did all of the performance numbers as we did see improved performance with the new BIOS.
We also got a few questions about how the platform handles 16GB of memory and if there are any stability issues with running all four memory slots fully populated. We've seen performance gains with all the memory slots full on AMD platforms in the past, so we'll be looking at 2x4GB and 4x4GB performance as well in our test results. Not too many people will be running 16GB of memory on the Llano A-Series APU, but we found no issues in doing so with G.Skill Ripjaws
So, to reiterate what our goals are for this article one more time:
- Benchmark 2x4GB memory kits at 1333MHz, 1600MHz, 1866MHz to find performance differences
- Benchmark 2x4GB versus 4x4GB to see if filling all the memory slots impacts performance
- See if we have any issues running 16GB of memory

Thermalright True Spirit HSF
Back in October of 2009 we tested the Cogage True Spirit LGA1366; Cogage is the mainstream arm of Thermalright, the makers of the infamous Ultra-120 or TRUE. Now Thermalright has brought the True Spirit to their lineup with a couple tweaks from the version we tested back in 2009.
The new design still has four 6mm heat pipes, a bowed base, PWM controlled fan, and 48 aluminum fins with the bent winglet design Thermalright is known for. The True Spirit also still supports dual 120mm fans, but it only comes with one fan and one set of spring clips.
What is new are some small cosmetic changes as well as a whole new mounting system that covers all the Intel 775/1155/1156/1366 LGA sockets and AMD AM2 and AM3 sockets. We'll get to those changes in a second, but let's take a look at the HSF specifications.
Features of the Thermalright True Spirit
- Quiet and powerful cooling due to multiple heatpipes and large aluminum fin area.
- Supports 1366/1156/1155/775 & AM2/AM3 processors.
- Proprietary bent winglet design to minimize airflow resistance.
- Utilizes four high quality 6mm heatpipes, strategically positioned to pick up heat from the CPU.
- Stack of 48 pieces of aluminum fins. Can be covered entirely by a 120mm fan to absorb all incoming air flow.
- Includes PWM control 120mm x 25mm fan (1,000~1,500 RPM).
- Light weight and easy installation.
Specifications of the Thermalright True Spirit
- Dimensions (HxWxD): 156 x 133 x 38mm
- Weight: 670g (heatsink only)
- Fan Speed: 1000~1500 RPM
- Noise Level: 19.6~37.4 dBA
- Socket:
- Intel: 775/1155/1156/1366
- AMD:AM2/AM3

Win an Intel Powered Unlocked CPU Gaming PC!
Our good friends over at Intel and CyberPower have assembled a system for Legit Reviews to give away that is based on the just released Intel Core i7-875K processor! We reviewed the Intel Core i7-875K processor and found that it packed a serious punch and did so at a price that was much better than the Intel Core i7-870 processor that it supersedes. When we heard that Intel and CyberPower wanted to give a fully built system to one of our forum members as a way of supporting Legit Reviews we couldn't turn the offer down!
The system that CyberPower has put together for one of our community members is rather nice. It is based around an Intel Core i7-875K unlocked processor, but is also packed full of other goodies like an NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 video card, 4GB of Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600MHz memory, Samsung Blu-Ray player, 40GB Intel SSD along inside along with another 1TB hard drive for file storage! All this goodness is packed inside a Cooler Master gaming case with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and topped off with a keyboard and mouse! Not only will this system look good, but it will also be a solid overclocker and gaming system for one lucky winner here on Legit Reviews. CyberPower sent over this picture of the system, but as always what you get might vary slightly as there was no mention of the memory card reader and it is shown in the image below. We know they core specs though as they are set in stone and after all can you really complain about a full system drawing?
A word from CyberPower:
"The new Intel K Series processors are here. To celebrate the launch, CyberPower, a leader in custom gaming desktop PCs, notebooks, and workstations, has teamed up with Intel to give away an Intel Core I system powered by the K series processor and blazing fast Intel SSD to a well deserved and lucky winner winner within the Legit Reviews community."

Windows 7 versus Windows XP on the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA Netbook - Windows 7 on a Netbook - Legit Reviews
Windows 7 on a Netbook
Many PC manufacturers, including netbook makers, are offering a free upgrade voucher for Microsoft's Windows 7 and it's time we found out how Windows 7 will perform on one of the most popular netbooks currently on the market! Using the release candidate, we installed Windows 7 on the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA seashell netbook and ran all the benchmarks we run in our full reviews in order to get a full impression on how Windows 7 stacks up against Windows XP on a netbook. Many in the community running netbooks are really hoping Windows 7 holds its own on a netbook because, let's face it, 2002's Windows XP on any 2009 system just seems backwards.Installation
Now, since the flash drive is detected as a removable hard disk to the computer, we had to edit the BIOS settings in order to make the flash drive the primary hard disk. Once we did this, the Windows 7 installer booted right up and we were able to begin our Windows 7 installation just as any other. There is a slight trick, though, as once the installer copies the initial set of files to the hard disk and reboots, you must enter the BIOS again and set the internal hard drive back to the primary so it is the one that boots. Besides that, installing Windows 7 was a breeze.
Windows 7 had drivers installed for all of our hardware right out of the box except the ACPI driver which allows the blue function hot keys to all work correctly. However, after a number of updates, Windows 7 actually knew that we had not installed the ACPI driver yet and pointed us directly to ASUS' ACPI driver which we downloaded and installed and it worked perfectly. I would also recommend installing the Intel Graphics driver from the optional Windows updates as it does install some additional files used by the ASUS ACPI driver.
Now that we have explained how we have installed Windows 7 on the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA seashell, let's see how it performed against the pre-installed Windows XP installation!
